JOSE IGNACIO ZENTENO
DEL POZO Y SILVA
He was born in Santiago
in 1786. When he was 21 years had left orphan, having
to leave his studies of Laws and to enter of apprentice
in a notary's office.
Having embraced the cause of Independence, after Rancagua
he was forced to emigrate to Mendoza, where he was
the administrative manager and financier of the Liberating
Army.
His work in benefit of Chile is immense. He was one
of the subscribers of the declaration of Independence,
and under the Bernardo O'Higgins inspiration. He designed,
with Santiago Arcos, our present flag. Also arbitrated
the financial resources to create the Liberating Expedition
to Peru, creating in Valparaiso an academy where there
were prepared, by means of fast courses, young officials
forth ground forces. Lately, being delegated he defended
the freedom of the press.
